Background:

The Award was established in 1972 by Mr. W. N. Jebson, a former senior lecturer in Mechanical Engineering who retired in 1962 after 35 years of association with the School of Engineering at Auckland. It commemorates the recognition by the University of New Zealand for teaching the Bachelor of Engineering at the Auckland School of Engineering in 1928. In 1995 the fund was supplemented by Mr. Selwyn Jebson, son of the founder, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Award’s name was changed to commemorate the founder.

Eligibility for the William Jebson Memorial Award:

The Award will be made to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) student, specializing in Mechanical Engineering, who has met the requirements to graduate and who, in the final year of the programme, obtained the greatest distinction in the two courses MECHENG 700A&B Research Project and MECHENG 731 Engineering Design 4M, and who will by the tenure of the Award further its purpose.




Value of the Award:

One William Jebson Memorial Award will be made annually and will be of the value of NZD 900. The recipient will be expected to use the Award for the cost of Emerging Professional Membership with Engineering New Zealand.
