The School of Social Policy, Sociology, and Social Research (SSPSSR) is delighted to offer this award to recognize the potential and ability of its students and alumni, and to help facilitate progression to master’s level study. Students who are in the final year of a bachelor’s degree at Kent, or who have completed a bachelor’s degree from Kent, are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicant must be completing/have completed an undergraduate bachelor’s degree at the University of Kent.
- Should have applied to study one of the following taught Master’s courses in SSPSSR: MA Criminology, MA Sociology, MA Methods of Social Research, MA International Social Policy (one year MA only), MA Philanthropic Studies for entry in September 2023.
- Candidates must have been made an offer to study one of the courses detailed above by the scholarship application deadline.
- Students should submit a scholarship application by the scholarship application deadline (please note that we are unable to consider applicants for the award without an application).

Criteria
You must meet all of the following conditions:
- Are completing/have completed an undergraduate bachelor’s degree at the University of Kent
- Have applied to study one of the following taught Master’s courses in SSPSSR: MA Criminology, MA Sociology, MA Methods of Social Research, MA International Social Policy (one year MA only), MA Philanthropic Studies for entry in September 2023
- Have been made an offer to study one of the courses detailed above by the scholarship application deadline
- Have submitted a scholarship application (details below) by the scholarship application deadline (please note that we are unable to consider applicants for the award without an application)
POINTS TO NOTE:
- You must meet the academic conditions of entry/be accepted for entry for the award to be given
- This award cannot be held in conjunction with other awards and scholarships offered by SSPSSR or the Division for the Study of Law, Society, and Social Justice (the award which provides the greater monetary value overall will be given only). Please contact us for further information.
- This award cannot be held in conjunction with the University’s Loyalty Discount for Kent graduates or the Kent Ambition Scholarships
- The scholarship amounts above are based upon full-time study. Students who undertake part-time study will receive 50% of the discount in their first year, and 50% of the discount in their second year of studies (assuming successful completion of the first)
- *As there is a single set fee for the MA in Philanthropic Studies the EU and Overseas reductions will not apply. All eligible candidates will receive a discount equivalent to the Home award, irrespective of their tuition fee status
- Where students are required to continue their studies beyond their original period of registration, the award will only be provided for that original period of registration

The level of scholarship varies depending on the degree classification of the bachelor’s degree obtained from Kent, and the student’s tuition fee status. The scholarship will be paid as a tuition fee discount.
Value of the scholarship:
For students who obtain/have obtained a First Class honours classification in a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kent:
- Home – £2,500
- EU* – £3,250
- Overseas* – £4,500
For students who obtain/have obtained an Upper Second Class (2.1) honours classification in a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kent:
- Home – £1,500
- EU* – £2,000
- Overseas* – £3,000
